The Pancake Breakfast!

This morning we had a pancake breakfast, fundraising for youth events and such and such. It is quite eventful thus far, and we expect many more tired and droopy eyed people to drop in to energize themselves with pancakes and coffee. Also new this year are cranberry pancakes, apple...stuff for the pancakes, and Tropicana Orange Juice! Only the best for the people who come to fill themselves silly for the pancakes. Also in youth news...

...Every first Wednesday of the month is game night! If anyone reads this blog, come out and we'll play games! indoor soccer, hockey, shuffleboard, search the cupboard for cookies........Every third Wednesday of the month is now Praise Night! Anyone is invited to come out for this fantastic event...We're running low on cookies and the like in the Youth Pantry, so donations are accepted!....Its raining alot today....But the clouds r' showin their silver linins......

SNOWTUBING!

even though march break was in full swing, we decided to go snowtubing at chicopee tube park. We had a great time. Battling through irate magic carpet operators and line cutters, and sailing down a hill on a modified inner tube certainly holds its own appeals.
Some time again in the future perhaps?

DONE! at 9:34 inaccurate time

The desert dishes are being washed and the decorations coming down. After some banjo showdowns, line dancing, and shaving heads, things start to close down. Hopefully we're not here until one o'clock, but who knows...theres lots of artificial trees to be taken down.

3:26 (PM) with innacurate time of course

Well, the tire swing isnt up yet, but...the tables are set, the ribs are made, and the plates are waiting for people to come to them.

only 3 more hours!

1:00 (A.M.)

Left with no food and water after a hurricane strikes our settlement....while, we're not quite there yet. The tree is up! After swinging around on a later and putting branches up that would make Tarzan proud, Rob completes the tree. Meanwhile< Jessica and Erin finish the clothesline, while everyone else is sleeping, but awake, so more like zombies.

12:00

As the new day starts on this in-accurate computer, the leafs start to get attached to the tree, and i make juice to ingest sugar into our tired souls.

how do we tie a tree the cieling? (11:11) computer time

after a dilemma with not finding a ladder for the tree, we find one and start wondering how to put cardboard leaves on it. i accidentally spilled too much cream in all the hot chocolate. Jeanette continues to contemplate using Christmas trees for our forest, though with a hillybilly theme, who knows how that will work out.

10:32 (computer time, not accurate)

as the chicken wings dissappear, angela and wayne hae a stratigizing session on how to cook the meat or make wood look real, or who knows what. jessica screams across the kitchen at me for the fourth time in the last ten minutes. rob talks about volkswagens as the rest of the guys talk about pontiacs.

p.

Starting the final set up for the dinner

9:50-things just starting to take off, even though Wayne has been here since five. the potato peeling begins, and rob continues to make the shacks 3-D.

It seems that about half of the cookies we baked have dimished in the freezer. In other happenings, we will study more of the PDL tonight and undoubtedly learn something inspirational.

Extended thoughts on cookies and cake last night

last night we had a wonderful and meaningful discussion on life, and how we were planned for God's pleasure (chapter 11 of PDL). It was also Mr. S's birthday-almost, and we celebrated with a delightful cake made by A. (I love the disguising identities part.) We also had a wonderful plate of cookies provided by our supplies from the freezer. Anyways, enough sappy talk about food.

Till next time,

I trust everyone is doing well with exams. We had a very small turnout last night. 5 youth and 5 leaders!!! We had a good discussion in our own youth room!

Good luck on exams everyone and we will see you next week. We have decided to go with the questions in the back of the Purpose Driven Life book so please read it each day.

I will not be there for discussion next week as I have a Worship Committee meeting.

blah

we are sitting down to feast of tea with milk in it. it might have sugar, it might not. upon inquiry, we now know that there is most likely sugar within the environment of the tea. we asked the tea drinker,(we will call the tea drinker k.vanderzwaag, no no that's to obvious, we will call her kathy v.)if there was sugar in it, and our answer, "there should be?"
why the question mark. because the drinker was unsure whether they had put sugar in their tea.
i always know what is in my drink. maybe the lesson to learn here would be to always make sure you look both ways before you cross the street.

The cookies WERE good

In regards to _________'s comment about the cookies being good, the youth agree that they were good. Now we have an unlimited supply of cookies, which shall sustain us in the PDL meetings.

purpose vs product

Hi all,
We will be starting the purpose driven life next Wednesday. For those youth who missed youth group today we started our time with a section of a sermon I heard on the radio from the local Kitchener Christian radio station. The pastor was saying that if we lined everyone in the world in order from most righteous, someone who is selfless, kind and compassionate, to the most hideous and cruel (lets look at our own century for now) we may put Mother Theresa on the most righteous end and perhaps Charles Manson on the other end. Everyone else falls in between-including us. Then we may ask ourselves "where is the cut-off point for who goes to heaven?" How many good deeds or how selfless does one need to be to get into heaven. We may figure that as long as our good deeds outweigh our bad acts that may be a pass. After all at most schools 50% is a pass.

The pastor goes on to say, however that we need to think about this like thinking about jumping. Some people can jump really far, some not far at all. There are record holders for the longest jump (28meters I think). However, no one can jump far enough if they are trying to jump across the Grand Canyon. None of us can make it, we all fall short. That is like trying to get into heaven.

It requires perfection and none of us are perfect so rely on Jesus who is perfect and it is through him!

I just wanted to retell that story as we start off on this adventure of "The purpose Driven Life" So that we don't get caught up in the actions we need to do. Yes, God has a purpose for our lives and it is important to figure that out but fulfilling that purpose is not what earns us our way.

BTW- the cookies are great!

Cookies

Right now we're making cookies before we jump into the purpose driven life. This book will help guide us. Apparently we ran out of chocolate chips, so we have a large scale problem on our hands. Sugar is just one of the many things that helps us to continue to have wonderful and pithy conversations about the world around us.
